September: The month of the "Stans" |
||
|
Three central Asian communities celebrate their Independence Days this month - all declared in 1991 following the breakup of the Soviet Union.
Uzbekistan - September 1st - Tajikistan and Turkmenistan - both on September 9th.
Although it is difficult to get exact figures it is estimated to number 10,000 - 15, 000 which is not an insignificant number of people who have committed to living, working and contributing to the life of the capital
Along with Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan who celebrate their Independence at slightly different times (although still declared in 1991) these central Asian states each has an ancient history of its own, forming part of the historic “Silk Road” which connected China with Europe, India and the Middle East.
Sending Best Wishes to anyone celebrating.
Best wishes
